The Dark Carnival (Campaign)
“ The Dark Carnival has arrived, bringing its twisted fair of clowns and chaos for those bold enough to challenge its infinite halls.
Ambitious Adventurers need not worry about the journey as the ever-eager Ringmaster is here to guide them to the show of a lifetime!
With the stage set, the Royal Droll awaits nestled deep within the depths of the Carnival. Now, roll up, roll up! The Dark Carnival's tricks, traps, treasures, and fiends ensure a night out at the circus will provide the whole party with a source of never-ending fun. ”
The Dark Carnival is the endless dungeon mode in For the King 2. Players can bring a party of up to four characters and play single player or multiplayer, like the other adventure stages. However, unlike them, it does not feature an Overworld and instead resembles a Dungeon. Journeyman is the only difficulty available for the Dark Carnival
Carnival Mechanics
Floors
The Dark Carnival is divided into an endless number of floors. The player can choose one of 3 paths to traverse to reach the next floor. The middle path is free to pick and always has a boss, and a chest which includes a wheel piece among its items. The left and right paths cost
Carnival Tickets, the amount which corresponds to their content, and vary in length and content. These paths can feature treasure, traps, fights, events, or sanctums.
- → See Possible Rooms for details.
Wheel
There is a wheel that gets spun at the end of each floor that can give positive or negative effects. Wedges get replaced with a new random wedge after they are activated. Players can get wedges (guaranteed after each boss or sometimes from chests) that they can use to replace the current wedges in the wheel without activating them.

Boss Loop
There are 3 categories of bosses: Special Bosses, Clown Elites, and the Droll. Boss encounters in the carnival follow a fixed loop. Regardless of the hallways chosen, the player will always face the next boss in the predetermined sequence. At floor 40, the game begins pulling from a different list featuring entirely new bosses.
The loop goes as follows: Special → Clown → Droll.
Special Bosses (Floor 1-39)
Special Bosses (Floor 40+)
Clown Elite
Droll
Ringmaster
The Ringmaster serves as your guide as well as a periodic boss throughout your Dark Carnival adventure. He awards you with 100
Gold to spend at the initial Concession Stand. The Ringmaster appears as a boss after the floor 20 wheel is spun and adds a Carnival Modifier. He will appear up to 4 more times in this way, using a different elemental whip for each combat.
Strongmen
Klaus and the strongmen appear at the end of floor 69 as a boss similar to the Ringmaster. Defeating him will unlock him as a mercenary in the Lore Store.
Carnival Modifiers
Modifiers exist to increase the difficulty of the adventure over time. It begins at floor 20 and is permanent for the adventure.
| Floor | Modifier |
|---|---|
| 20 | Enemies have +25% |
| 25 | Enemies have +50% |
| 30 | Enemies have +25% Enemies have +25% |
| 35 | Enemies have +100% |
| 40 | Enemies have +50% |
Strategies
- There is no Overworld in the Dark Carnival. Choose a party with Special Abilities that cater to Dungeon style combats to ensure characters are being played to their full potential.
- Understanding which rarity of rooms give what encounters is useful when planning your path. See Dark Carnival Rooms for full list of possible encounters.
Carnival Tickets are obtained after each boss fight, however it is also obtainable through various encounters throughout the floors. Keep track of your ticket count to make sure you aren't forced into a boss fight unprepared.
