Black Hole is a character skill in the game For The King.

Description

Chance to instantly remove an enemy from combat when performing a direct attack.

Effects

Black Hole is a passive skill that can trigger from any type of single target attack, regardless of the weapon used. The ability can even trigger with status attacks that deal no damage.

Once triggered, a black hole is summoned, engulfing and defeating an enemy in combat instantly (regardless of any status immunities or current health points). The normal rewards gained from defeating that enemy are forfeited in the process, including experience and gold. Instead, Star Matter will drop at the end of the fight.

Star Matter

Star Matter is the residue left after Black Hole triggers and successfully destroys an enemy. This item can prove to be somewhat valuable, especially in the early game. As a consumable, it acts as an orb during combat and can provide a protective barrier around the party. As a resource, it can be sold off for a substantial amount of gold.

Chance to trigger

Black Hole has a (6% + 2% for each focus point spent) chance to proc. However, that number is then halved for every Star Matter already in the party's inventories. Therefore, the more Star Matter on hand, the less often the skill will trigger.

Ways to acquire Black Hole

Innate

Black Hole is a core skill of the Astronomer.

Notes

Stolen items

If an enemy has stolen anything from a hero during a battle and dies as a result of a Black Hole, the stolen property will still be recovered as normal at the end of combat.

Leveling

Black Hole can actually be detrimental to level grinding due to the loss of experience and gold when the skill triggers. There is also the potentiality of missing out on enemy-specific loot. Keep this in mind during combat in the early phases of an adventure.

Bosses and scourges

Although Black Hole was originally reported to work on scourges, this was patched out of the game shortly after its introduction with the Lost Civilization DLC. As such, the skill no longer triggers on Bosses or Scourges.
